Attraction Spotlight: Lake of the Isles

Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis is a huge attraction for residents. It is a part of the Chain of Lakes Regional Park and sees around 5 million visitors every year. Located on 2500 Lake Isles Parkway East, Lake of the Isles is the place to go for scenic views and outdoor recreation.

History

The engineered lake was made in the early 20th century. The creators basically used dredged material to create parkland which became a scenic park. It used to be simply a shallow lake and marsh complex.

The constructors have been working since 2001 to improve the water quality of the lake. The major project was set to update damaged recreation areas and improve eroding shorelines. There was a flood back in 1997 and intense windstorm in 1998 that caused damage to the parkland. Fortunately, there are still renovation strategies in place such as path reconstruction, wetland enhancement, and shoreline stabilization.
