Attraction Spotlight: Mariucci Arena
The Mariucci Arena is the home of the Golden Gophers hockey team. The Arena has been at the University of Minnesota campus for 19 years now and it continues to sell-out to this day. It used to be located in front of Williams Arena and with its current location, the Arena has a whole new look. The Golden Gopher hockey team looks different playing at this location too; they now can be seen from the best sight lines. They now play on an Olympic-sized ice sheet ;and have the capability of ice year-round at the University of Minnesota. Here is a look at the Mariucci Arena.
The Mariucci Arena has hosted the West Regional 4 different years and has hosted the 2006 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four. The Arena had a makeover before the 2012 season where it received a new sound system, LED fascia boards and center-hung LED scoreboards. Visitors can enjoy 18 luxury suites as of the 2001-2001season.
Visiting Mariucci Arena
When you arrive at Mariucci Arena you’ll notice that you already feel a part of the action. You can hear the hockey players playing on the ice from the George Lyon Lobby. The entrance is glassed-in and features a clear glass elevator. You’ll also notice the display dedicated to the legendary John Mariucci who the build was named after. The lobby features a shrine to Minnesota hockey with memorabilia showcased.
Above the concourse is the Gold Club, the 205 theater-style seat section with the best views of Golden Gopher hockey. The players can enjoy larger locker rooms, a weight room and an easily accessible equipment room. The arena can hold 9,700 people.
