Lake Elmo Approves New Luxury Golf Course Community

The Royal Club Golf Course Homes - Lake ElmoIt wasn't that long ago when articles starting popping up about golf numbers being down and courses all over the U.S. closing at alarming rates. But don’t tell that to the developers who are planning a new luxury golf community in suburban Lake Elmo.

Earlier today, reports surfaced about the Lake Elmo City Council approving preliminary plans for a 186-acre, 292-lot housing development that will eventually surround the new Royal Golf Club, the former 3M’s Tartan Park golf course. As noted by the Business Journal, The Royal Club community will feature both detached single-family homes and a select number of maintenance-free villa homes, while home builders expected to have a presence in the community include Villa Builders, Gotham Communities, and Pratt Homes.

Combined, the 18-hole golf course and the residential community will encompass 428 acres and have an estimated development cost of $365 million (yes, you read that correctly).

If all goes according to plan, the residential portion of The Royal Club will be built out in four separate phases, with the fourth and final phase not expected to begin construction until 2023.

Right now, villa homes at The Royal Club are projected to price somewhere between $500,000 and $850,000, while luxury single-family homes in the community will be priced anywhere from $750,000 to $1.5 million.
