Top Things to do in the Maple Grove Area
Maple Grove was once just a village but now it’s become one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the metro. It’s an expanse of farmland north of the Twin Cities and homes, businesses and retail are popping up all the time here. Just a short drive away, you’ll find a day full of activities from shopping to dining and recreation to reading at the library. Here is a look at the top things to do in the Maple Grove area.
Maple Grove Library – 8001 Main Street North
The new Maple Grove Library is an excellent place to check out for new and favorite books. The floor to ceiling windows are beautiful and inside you’ll love the natural light, the smell of old books as you browse and the plenty of places to sit and read. It’s three times the size of the old one and has 69 computers to use. It’s kid-friendly as well.
Elm Creek Regional Park – 12400 James Deane Parkway
The Elm Creek Regional Park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon outdoors. With winter wrapping up and spring weather starting to come out, it’s the perfect time to make a trip to the park. The birds are starting to come out and the nature center is the perfect place to watch them from.
Check out interactive exhibits like the live Minnesota frogs, turtles and snakes. Ride your bike around the trails, play disc golf on the 18-hole course and when it warms up, take a swim in the man-made pond. When the snow arrives next winter, try skiing, tubing and snowboarding.
The Maple Maze – 12951 Weaver Lake Road
The Maple Maze is a blast for the kids. It’s located on Weaver Lake Road inside the Maple Grove Community Center. It’s an indoor playground with tube slides, rock climbing and a ball pit.
What to eat
Grab a bite to eat at The Lookout Restaurant where kids can play in the restaurant’s playground in the back and you can see the skyscrapers of downtown Minneapolis or check out live music. The Maple Grove Farmers’ Market is a big hit among locals because you can stock up on fresh produce, baked goods and see chef demonstrations.
Don’t miss great shopping opportunities like the Black Forest Boutique, the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, and of course The Great River Energy Windmill, the giant wind turbine that is cool to look at.
