It’s a Junk Bonanza in Shakopee this Week!

junkyard-bonanza-vintage-marketYears ago, Ki (rhymes with “hi”) Nassauer, a native Minnesotan held a garage sale at her home in Long Lake. At the end of the day she tallied her proceeds: $11,000.

That was the moment she realized that what she calls “junk,” is actually treasure. After refinishing, refurbishing and sometimes transforming junk the cash rolls in.

Nassauer turned her love of junk into several businesses, one of which is the Junk Bonanza, a sort of traveling flea market of junk vendors and a collector’s dream-come-true.

If you’re looking for something different to do this weekend, head to Shakopee for the Junk Bonanza’s Minnesota stop. Here you’ll join more than 12,000 other folks as they shop from more than 160 vendors hawking vintage items, antiques, architectural salvage and some pretty amazing repurposed junk.

Especially if you like shabby chic decorating you don’t want to miss this event. And, since it might rain this weekend, it is being held indoors, at Canterbury Park. Aside from shopping, you can participate in workshops, such as the one with a master appraiser who will give you tips on how to know if an item will become a collectible in the future, what’s hot now and how to shop wisely when you visit estate sales, flea markets and auctions.

The Junk Bonanza opens this Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. and remains open until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday you can shop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you want to be let into the event two hours before the general public, you can do just that for $25 (the early bird ticket is good for all three days), otherwise, admission is $9. Get directions to Canterbury Park here. Maybe you can make a day of it and watch the horse races after shopping.

By the way, Ki Nassauer will be in attendance.
