Neighborhood Spotlight: Camden/North Minneapolis

It is located northwest of downtown and includes many small neighborhoods. The area contains many parks and it is a family-friendly environment.  Here is a look at what this community has to offer.

Neighborhoods

Neighborhoods found within Camden/North Minneapolis include:

  • Cleveland
  • McKinley
  • Webber-Camden
  • Victory
  • Folwell
  • Shingle Creek
  • Harrison
  • Near North
  • Bryn Mawr
  • Hawthorne
  • Lind-Bohanon
  • Summer-Glenwood

The homes in these areas are mostly affordable starter homes, recently constructed one-and-a-half story homes and multi-family houses. Homes began being built in this area in the early 20th century and the newest homes were built ten years ago.  

People not only choose this area for the affordability and long history but they also get great access to parks. In fact, residents in Victory specifically have great access to one of the finest parks in the city, Theodore Wirth Park.

The neighborhoods vary in what they offer.  Shingle Creek has many homes in the 1950s era. Lind-Bohanon has one of the largest amounts of homes in the community at around 1,400.  This neighborhood features historic homes from 1910-1930. Folwel neighborhood features first-time buyer loan programs and helps with home repairs. Willard-Homewood is popular for offering children’s garden, community gardens and homes built as old as the 1900s.

Population

The community of Camden/North Minneapolis consists of mostly families and couples.  The population is around 22,000 for this community with a median age of 32.  The median household income is $44,000.  Homes are around $130,600.

Education

There are many schools in the area and a high percentage of high school graduates. There are a variety of private schools, pre-K schools, elementary, middle and high schools. There also a variety of colleges nearby for residents like the Minnesota School of Business-Brooklyn Center and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.  

The community has a low unemployment rate and is seeing job growth. Camden/North Minneapolis is a great area to raise a family.
