Minnetonka has only been a city since 1956 even though it’s been settled in since the mid-1800s. The Minnetonka name shares its name with a large metro lake even though only a small section of the city touches the lake. Bennett Family Park – 3717 County Road 101
The Bennett Family Park is an absolute blast for families. When you arrive you’ll enjoy the smell of cut grass, dugout dirty and freshly popped popcorn. Sit in the bleachers to enjoy the view of the baseball diamond as the ballplayers play the big game. The park was named after the family who donated the land for a ballpark back in the 1950s. This was the home of the first Little League team in the state and now has eight baseball diamonds.
Shady Oak Beach – 5200 Shady Oak Road
If you love to hit the beach, The Shady Oak Beach is the place to go for 70 feet of sandy beach shoreline and clear water to swim around in. There are lifeguards on duty for your safety and you’ll love playing sand volleyball and fishing here. you can even rent a canoe. It’s only $5 to enter the beach.
Gold Nugget – 14401 Excelsior Blvd
Check out Gold Nugget in Minnetonka. It’s a 30 year old neighborhood restaurant serving great food. They have comfort food, a neighborhood feeling and it’s a local favorite. Try the hamburgers or some of their made-from-scratch items with a beer off the huge beer list.
Charles H. Burwell House – 13209 East McGinty Road
The Charles H. Burwell House is located at Minnetonka Boulevard along the Minnehaha Creek. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s been around since 1883 and was managed by Charles H. Burwell of the Minnetonka Mill Company. His family lived there until the late 1950s and the city purchased the Victorian home in 1970. You can see it restored to look like it did in 1894 with original Burwell furnishings.
